Arequipa, Peru. LACCEI 2010 is the eighth annual conference sponsored by the Latin American and Caribbean Consortium of Engineering Institutions (LACCEI) with a focus on engineering practice, research, development and education. 

It brings together administrators, faculty, students and industry that seek collaboration or interaction with the Latin American and Caribbean institutions.  Research and best practices in all engineering disciplines and in engineering education and accreditation will be presented. 

It is a premium venue to find partners in all areas of collaborations.  Refereed papers go through double blind review and the proceedings are published CD and online with ISBN. 

Best papers are reviewed for publication in LACCEI’s Latin American and Caribbean Journal of Engineering Education, which is indexed by LATINDEX.   Submissions accepted in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French.

Languages: English <-> Spanish Translations will be provided for plenary sessions and main educational track.  Papers can be submitted and presented in English, Spanish, Portuguese or French. 

Social Program and Networking: Breaks, lunches, and Gala dinner with Cultural Programming are included in the full registration.  Student registration does not include the Gala dinner but includes the conference and other student specific programming.  Note: LACCEI member institutions receive one (two if membership is paid by March 1) free registrations to the conference and workshops and the institutional liaison is invited to the Welcome VIP Reception.  These and other receptions sponsored by Peruvian universities will be excellent opportunities to network.  The LACCEI conference is known for its friendly multi-cultural atmosphere, members refer to it as a gathering of “la familia LACCEI”, the LACCEI family.  If you are seeking collaboration partners, let the LACCEI staff know, and we introduce you to the appropriate participants.   Last year there were over 500 registrants. 

Cultural Tours: You will be in the center of the “White City of Peru” - Arequipa, known for its convent, Spanish architecture, museum with pre-Colombian mummy, high-quality alpaca wool weaves, and toffee candies.  You can add a tour to: Cusco and Machu Pichu – one of the Seven Wonders of the World; or Colca Canyon, home of the Condors and deeper and more magnificent than the Grand Canyon in the United States; or Puno and Lake Titicaca, the highest lake in the world and home to the floating islands of the Uros, Chulpas and other native indians.  Peru is known for its diverse and gourmet cuisine:  Seviche (Sushi), vegetable dishes, and “Chifa”, Peruvian Chinese food.

Registration:  $450 for Non-Members, $75 for Students.  Member institutions receive one (two if pay by March 1) free full registrations and additional attendees from member institution receive a discounted rate: $350.  LAC members (those from Latin America and Caribbean member institutions with the exception of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands) are further subsidized by LACCEI, reducing their registration to $200.  The Universidad de Santa Maria de Arequipa, the host for LACCEI 2010, is further subsidizing participants from Peruvian LACCEI institutions, reducing their registrations to $100, and $25 for students.  Institutional membership applications can be found in the LACCEI webpages: www.laccei.org

Es necesario activar Javascript para visualizarla to receive heavily discounted airfares, especially Lima-Arequipa national flights.  The University of Santa Maria has negotiated heavily-discounted rates for the hotels.  There is a big selection of hotels in Arequipa at extremely reasonable rates, located in the Plaza de Armas, the historical center of Arequipa, for ~US$100 for single and double rooms; and more economical hotels within walking distance of the University are available for ~US$25 for single, and ~US$40 for double rooms.
